In-office ultrasound means fewer appointments, less waiting, and no separate imaging facility to visit. Whether you're pregnant or being evaluated for a gynecologic concern, most scans are performed the same day at our Poway office.
During pregnancy, common studies include a dating ultrasound in the first trimester, a full anatomy scan around 20 weeks, and growth scans as needed later on. Outside of pregnancy, ultrasound is a first-line tool for evaluating pelvic pain, abnormal bleeding, ovarian cysts, and fibroids.
Because Dr. Fan interprets scans herself, you don't wait days for a report — you leave with answers and a plan.
Understanding pregnancy ultrasounds
An ultrasound uses safe sound waves — no radiation — to create images of your baby and your reproductive organs. It's one of the most valuable tools in prenatal care, used to confirm a due date, monitor growth, and check on development at different points in pregnancy.
Having ultrasounds in-office means your imaging and your care stay under one roof. Results are reviewed with you by the same team managing your pregnancy, so nothing gets lost between appointments.
Signs and symptoms
Ultrasounds are often used at routine milestones, but Dr. Fan may also recommend one if you experience:
- Vaginal bleeding or spotting
- Abdominal pain or cramping
- Concerns about your baby's movement
- A need to confirm your due date or check growth

How we evaluate it
The type and timing of ultrasound depends on where you are in your pregnancy. Early scans confirm your due date and viability; later scans assess growth, position, and development. Dr. Fan will explain what each scan is looking at and what the images show.
Certain specialized scans may be coordinated with an outside imaging center, and Dr. Fan will review the results with you so your care stays connected.
